First Steps with the Web Tools
This tutorial gets you from an empty tab to a client that every tool can read. For the full description of the page, see Game Folder.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Use a recent Chrome, Edge or Opera on a PC. They can open a folder and reopen it on your next visit. Firefox and Safari work read-only (see step 3).
- Have a copy of a client at hand. The tools never write into the folder you open, but a copy is the habit to keep when you later put changed files back.
- Not for phones: big clients need a lot of memory.
Open your client
Section titled “Open your client”-
Open the tools. The left sidebar groups the tools under Start, Interface, 3D and Game Data. The first entry, Game Folder, is the start page. The chip in the top bar reads No game folder until you open one.
-
Click Open game folder and choose the client folder: the one that contains
rs.iopandmap.iop. An unpacked client (plainconfig\,resource\andxml\folders) works too. -
Allow the browser to read the folder. In Firefox or Safari the button reads Pick game folder (read-only), and the browser may word its prompt like an upload; nothing is uploaded, the files are only read.
-
The Packs table lists each pack with its Size, Entries, Old copies and Password. The chip in the top bar now shows the folder name.
If you see “No .iop packs in this folder”, you picked a folder one level too high or too low.
The browser remembers the folder. On your next visit it reopens by itself when it still has permission; otherwise the page offers a Reopen “folder name” button, so you do not have to browse for the folder again.
Pack passwords
Section titled “Pack passwords”Pack entries are encrypted, and the password differs per region. The tools already try the passwords of the regions known from the shared sources. The Password column of the table shows which one opened each pack.
If a pack shows Unknown password (a red notice names the packs), your client uses its own password:
- In Pack passwords, click Add password.
- Fill in a name and the password in Password (type 0). Type 1 (optional) is only for clients that use a second type; leave it empty if you do not know it.
- Click Save and read the packs again.
Your passwords are tried first and stay in this browser only. Never post a pack password on Discord, in an issue or in a screenshot. If you only have the encoded form from the source code, Use Encode / Decode turns it into the plain password.
Choose how much to load
Section titled “Choose how much to load”The Loading panel has two modes:
| Mode | Good for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Load what a tool needs (default) | Most people, any PC | Each tool waits the first time you open it. Heroes, Items, Quests and the model index can take from a few seconds to a minute on a big client |
| Load everything after opening the folder | A strong PC and a long session | One wait of a few minutes every time you open the folder, and much more memory. Wrong passwords and unreadable entries show up at once |
Load everything now runs the full load once without changing the mode, and you can cancel it from the loading card. While something loads, a card in the middle shows the step and a percentage, and the page ignores clicks until it is done.
If you cancel a full load, the tools simply load what they need when you open them.
Try a tool
Section titled “Try a tool”- Click IOP Manager in the sidebar. The right side lists the packs’ folders (
config/,resource/,xml/and so on); the left side is the preview. - Click any file. It shows in Preview.
You have a working setup. Next: Extract and replace a file.
What stays on your PC
Section titled “What stays on your PC”- Your client files are read in the tab and never uploaded. There is no server behind the tools.
- The browser remembers the folder handle, your own pack passwords, the loading mode and some panel sizes. It does not keep what the tools read from the packs; that is read again each visit.
- Edits live in the tab. When a tool saves, you get a download; nothing is written into your client. Close or reload the tab before downloading and the edits are gone.
- To remove everything the site remembers, clear the site data of the tools’ address in your browser settings.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”- A tool page is empty: open the client on Game Folder first.
- A tool says it cannot read a pack: add the pack password (see above).
- The tab gets slow or closes: switch back to Load what a tool needs, close other heavy tabs.
- Found a bug? Report it on Discord with the tool name, the client you used and what you clicked.
